Shelter Plus Care

The Shelter Plus Care Program is a grant funded program made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Potential clients must be chronically homeless and disabled at the time of application. The Auburn Housing Authority maintains 5 Shelter Plus Care Vouchers.
Eligible clients include chronically homeless individuals who have been continuously homeless for at least one year or have been on the streets and in an emergency shelter at least four times in the last three years. Individuals who wish to apply for assistance from the Shelter Plus Care program must be referred to Auburn Housing Authority by one of its partnering Supportive Service Providers (Cayuga County Mental Health, Rescue Mission of Auburn, Chapel House, ARISE of Cayuga County or Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency). These providers identify potential applicants, perform a primary assessment of the applicant’s eligibility and refer them to AHA. In order to qualify for and remain a part of the Shelter Plus Care program, participants must receive on-going case management from a Supportive Service Provider throughout the participant's time on the program.
Please contact the Auburn Housing Authority at 315-253-6249 if you need more information about Shelter Plus Care or think that you may be eligible for the program.
